Billy Green

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the sad passing of Billy Green in the early hours of Sunday morning 3rd March 2019

Billy was a longstanding member at the Ice Bowl, and an integral member of the Volunteer Coaching Team

Billy was Curling & Curling was Billy. The Ice Bowl was seen by many of his family and friends as his second home. If he wasn’t at home he would be at the Ice Bowl and if he wasn’t at the Ice Bowl well then he would be enroute.

Voted as Coach of the year in 2005, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2016 & again in 2017 billy was very popular with all the Junior Curlers not for all his knowledge and wisdom but for a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others.

Billy has introduced 1000’s of Junior Curlers & Adults to the sport over the years with each and every one of them getting the welcoming smile, encouragement, a wee chat about what ever had happened that day, and not once asking for anything in return. His passion was to volunteer and allow others to succeed.

Billy was a member of Dumfries Curling Club joining in 1994, he went on to win the Most Improved Curler award in 1997. Over the years Billy has won most of the Club Competitions, including the League, Quaich, YPL, Gold Cup and highest non skip in the Points. He has also won various other competitions, including the Senior League, The Local Wednesday Night League and a weekend at Stranraer.

Billy was inspirational in starting up a delivery stick competition at the Ice Bowl, he was part of all the committees and never far away with a helping hand. In season 2018/19 Billy looked after the running of the curling club lounge and took to coaching a couple of junior teams providing them extra training and support at events across Scotland.

Billy’s attitude towards life was inspiring and he will be sadly missed by everyone at the Ice Bowl. His legacy will live strong for years to come with the number of juniors he has encouraged and set on a path to do wonderful things.

Billy thank you from us all for everything you did, for the laughter, the memories and all the good times, you were a true gentleman and a great friend to us all.

Rest in Peace

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS: Billy Green Monday 18th March 2019 1300 Jardines Chapel of Rest, Dumfries thereafter to Roucan Loch 1400 1500 onwards Funeral Tea at Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries.

Billy was an inspiration to many especially all three of my children and he was the one who gave Ross the first opportunity of going on the ice at 6 years old. We all have had wonderful trips with him to Holland in a rusty council minibus, then going to Aberdeen for the under 13 finals. RIP Billy you will never be forgotten x

A lovely man who supported and mentored many of our students as part of the primary school curling programme. The thoughts of everyone in the sport and fitness dept at the college go out to Billy’s family and friends at this sad time. Thanks for everything Billy.

I don’t think I ever saw Billy without a smile, and a genuine one, which always made you feel special. He was a true gem of a man who gave so much to the sport of curling. I will miss him, and I know so many more will too.

A lovely gentleman, and will be sadly missed x

Thank you for the kind messeges! Grandpa we’ll be missed but know he’s there in spirit! He inspired so many kids, especially me and wouldn’t be the player and person I am today without him! X

I'm still trying to get over the shock of the phone call I got on Sunday morning. Going into the Icebowl and there is no Billy is a strange experience, it will never be the same place without him. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him. My heart goes out to June and the family.

What a wonderful man. He taught me and many, many others how to curl for the first time and introduced and encouraged us into the wonderful world of the sport. He’ll be very sadly missed, but never forgotten.❤️

This news brings great sadness to my heart. Billy has not only inspired a club and nation but a world of curlers, coaches & parents. Billy your commitment, dedication and kind heart will be cherished and missed. Love & comfort to the family & home club of Billy Green. Very sad 😢

Billy was not just an inspiration in Dumfries or Scotland, but also for us in the Netherlands. Whenever we came over to Dumfries he was one of the reasons we felt so welcome and he inspired us to help out in our curling community just like he did. Sorry for your loss, rest in peace Billy.

Lovely man! Will be sorely missed in lots of ways. Rest in peace Billy! 💕

On behalf of Lorna Jaime Wayne Yvonne and Darin, we send our thoughts from Canada to the Dumfries curling community. Our Junior team had the absolute pleasure having Billy as one of our drivers during our trip to Dumfries last March. RIP Billy.

With deepest symphony to all the family

An inspiration to us all.. our boys loved the chatter and the banter he had with them.. irreplaceable!!!!

A legend gone to soon 😔

Rest in Peace Billy. A true gentleman who will be sorely missed. Xx
